Bedroom Styling 101
I believe it was the middle of May when I had finally grown tired of waking up warm whilst sleeping. See, I can be a human inferno while I’m sleeping, and if I wake up warm I definitely wake up grumpy. I told my husband it was a necessity for us to find some summertime bedding. But this, this was a foreign concept to the male species who never understand throw pillows…let alone having duplicate comforters to fit the lighter weight and warmth that the summer months can require. Needless to say, I won the bedding debate and I started searching for a lighter comforter option to take a break from our too-warm down comforter insert and duvet.
Traditionally, I would love to just use a comforter insert and duvet cover for the versatility. In the cooler months, I layer a quilt coverlet and our comforter duvet because I enjoy a layered look to bedding. Adding layers to your bedding gives a cozier and comfier look, as well as increasing hygge. We purchased new bedroom pieces after our wedding, and I’ve loved how the look has turned out so far! Our bedroom is so cozy, I have trouble leaving it every morning! 😉
I’ve piece-mailed our entire bedroom together, and a few of the pieces have been highly functional pieces, mixed in with several antiques and collectibles (my usual scheme). I decided when we upgraded our bed that I only wanted a headboard frame, and wanted functional storage in a bench, so I found this one at HomeGoods! Otherwise, I’ll talk more in depth about some of the other favorite pieces of our bedroom now!
As a tactile person, I always select bedding that feels good to the touch, while also providing plenty of comfort. I saw this blue/chambray striped comforter set at Bed, Bath and Beyond and thought it would feel great for more lightweight summer bedding. It also tied in great with my existing pale pink throw pillows and throw. I find that a bed looks best with:
1. A FEW throw pillows. (Odd numbers are most visually appealing!)
2. Layered bedding. This could be in the form of a throw or blanket, or with multiple bedding layers (quilt/coverlet + comforter or something else on top). This adds interest, texture, and ultimately…coziness.
I added this beige embroidered floral pillow just to add some femininity to the striped bedding. I have an arranged compromise with the mister that I can’t have TOO much floral in the bedroom, so this added the perfect amount!

These nightstands. I can’t say enough good things about them, because they’re highly functional, classic-looking, and highly affordable! It’s not everyday you walk into Ikea and find something as traditional looking as these bad boys, but I am so glad we purchased them. Plus, as you can see in the pictures they have this great “tech” drawer to hide your gadget cords, remotes, or magazines! Plus there is a cavernous space below, that I use these storage baskets to hide our unwanted clutter. There’s tons of great functional storage, with a budget friendly price. I’m going to change out the drawer pulls on them next just to give them a little extra “flair”!
When it comes to styling nightstands, I like to add a few things, but not add too much clutter. I keep it simple with one small picture frame for my beloved Fritzy, and I love the look of adding greenery or plants wherever you can! (Bonus points if you get real ones…my cat would destroy them in 0.5 seconds)

So there’s just a few simple ideas as to how to add to or change up your bedroom scheme. As I said earlier, I will change back to our layered quilt and duvet once cooler weather approaches, but until then I’ll enjoy these summery blues and a lighter comforter in our cozy space. It’s a space both my husband and I can find comfortable and functional, and that’s the ultimate desired effect! For help with your bedroom space, don’t hesitate to reach out and I’d be happy to give you some ideas on how to revamp your surroundings!
