Fall Wardrobe Transitions
I know we are still a few weeks away from fall (even though the PSL has officially hit Starbucks….), but I just love fall so much! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, I love the cooler weather, and I especially love the clothing! So towards the end of the summer, I begin to start making preparations for the cooler months. The end of the summer season is a great time to clean up your wardrobe, and prepare for a new season! Here are some tips I have for wardrobe transitions, as well as fall staples that are in my wardrobe. I’ll be doing several fall fashion blog posts from some of my favorite retailers in the upcoming weeks, but let’s get prepped first!
Wardrobe Preparations
Like I mentioned above, the end of the season is a wonderful time to assess what you truly wore out of your closet and what you didn’t. Now I know that quarantining and our COVID lifestyles haven’t allowed us to wear the clothing you normally might, or have leaned into your leggings a little more than usual, so maybe think to whether you’ve worn a particular item of clothing in the last TWO years. If that answer is no, consider donating that item! I’m not going to go completely Marie Kondo on you guys, but you obviously know what you might be able to get rid of and what items you can’t bear to part with. Check for wear/holes, how well they fit, and make some hard decisions! [Hint: if you haven’t worn it in over 4 years or 2+ sizes ago, you can probably part with it. Even if you lose weight, you deserve something new instead!]
Once you’ve parted with a few items, you can prep your fall and winter clothes. I comb through them before I decide to keep them, and a little trick you can do to prove wearability is to turn all the hangers around backwards! Then when you wear that item, you can turn the hanger around the right way in your closet and know with certainty that that is an item you wear and enjoy! You’ll be surprised how many things you truly don’t wear going about this process. Maybe it’ll spark you to step out of your daily clothing choice box and choose something new, or just demonstrate to yourself that you have more of a specific niche. Either way, it’s a handy little trick to help clean out your closet!
Fall Fashion Preparations
Once I’ve prepped and cleaned out my closet, I like to do a kind of “clothing inventory”. I know, this step is completely extra, but I like to prepare! So I assess upcoming fall trends and make sure I have several staples that I like out of the current fashion trends. If I don’t already own an item of interest, I bookmark it and plan these purchases out in advance! Tons of retailers are already rolling out their fall clothing, and there will be much more in the coming month. I’ve linked several staples that I think are trending and extremely versatile. These items will help to transition from summer to fall fashion, and fresh denim always helps too! I’ve grouped them into two categories as well:
fall fashion staples
fall accessories
As I mentioned above, I have a bunch of great upcoming fall fashion posts, some makeup, and more! It’s going to be a productive couple months, but until then…I’m going to keep suffering through these 90º days and pray for fall to come quickly! Thanks for reading along!
