Hairsprays and Texturizing Sprays

Let’s talk about hairspray today!

In my humble opinion….it’s kind of a necessity for any hairstyle of mine. Whether my hair is straight, curled, or naturally curly, there is some form of hairspray, finishing spray, or texturizing spray in my hair. Maybe even a combination of the three! The differences between the three are subtle, but can make a big difference in achieving the final outcome for your hairstyle. Let’s compare and contrast!

Hairspray

  • Varying “finishes” – whether medium hold, extra hold, etc.
  • Can have different properties to boost shine, protect against humidity, etc.
  • You select the finish based on your desired outcome – looking for lasting hold? Or touchability? Need your hair to stay in place for hours?
  • Helps to SET your final look
  • Also helps in thickening when teasing or adding volume to the hair
  • Can also weigh hair down if too much hold or product is applied

Finishing Spray

  • Usually a lighter hold than hairspray
  • Great if you want to be able to brush your hair afterwards
  • Also ideal for extremely fine hair – not as heavy of a product
  • Not as much HOLD as hairspray
  • Usually for adding shine to final finished styles

Texturizing Spray

  • Adds grit and texture to finished styles
  • Great for creating a “beachy” or tousled look
  • Usually applied to mids to ends of hair
  • Creates volume when applied at the roots of hair
  • Does not “hold” all day like hairspray commonly does
  • Can contain or not contain sea salt or similar ingredients
  • Also can be used to add volume to ponytails and messy buns

Favorite Hairsprays

I’ve linked my favorite hairsprays and texturizing sprays below so you can easily see and research them! I’ve recently been using the OGX Multi-Benefit Hairspray and I’ve really liked it! I would describe it as a lightweight hairspray, and it worked great on the days I straightened my hair to give it some hold. I also love the Sebastian Shaper Plus, and the Kenra 25 hairspray is a long-time favorite when you need ALL DAY hold! I’m serious….it will literally hold on, without giving you that hairspray helmet look!

Texturizing Sprays

For texturizing spray, I’ve linked the holy grail of all sprays – the Oribe Dry Texturizing spray. Now I realize this product is pricy, which is why I’m always testing out products that mimic the effect, for less money. The OGX Aspen Extract Dry Texturizing spray is a fantastic texture spray for less than $10. That’s a no-brainer in my book! I also linked several others that get amazing reviews, including the Ouai Texture Foam. I love to use this product on the ends of my hair or in my ponytails to give it easy texture! Perfect for any hair type too as it is very lightweight, and perfect to jeuje up any hairstyle.

So there you have a quick rundown on everything hairspray! If you have any questions or need help with product selection, leave a comment below!
