Home Lighting Made Easy
When my husband and I purchased our first home over a year ago, I knew we would make some updates. That’s only natural in the history of home-ownership, right? First was to add some under-cabinet lighting into our kitchen. The kitchen was perfect in exactly what I had wanted when we were looking at homes: big enough for multiple people, cream-colored cabinetry, updated appliances, and granite countertops. However, it lacked under-cabinet lighting and we remedied that issue in August thanks to some easy lighting solutions from Ikea. (If you’re interested, these were the lights we used and they were great!)
Another issue with the kitchen lighting was the fact that there was no light directly over the sink. In the daytime, this isn’t a huge issue, and at night the kitchen still gets decent lighting from the main light fixture and the under-cabinet lights…but we still needed some extra oomph in the sink area. That’s where the Magic Light Trick stepped in.
I discovered the Magic Light Trick from following Nesting with Grace over on Instagram. On the Nesting with Grace blog, Brooke gives tons of home decor advice, specializing in small space solutions and I love her decorative style! When she shared how she adds light to areas that need it without hiring an electrician or any hard wiring, I was instantly curious.
In essence, you can purchase any pendant light fixture or sconce to add light to wherever you deem needs additional lighting, and you can insert a LED puck light into the fixture and have remote control or push on/off control in that light fixture! We used this trick in two areas of the home, both over our kitchen sink and also in the master bedroom for some decorative sconce lighting and I love the way it turned out!
From the above picture, you’ll notice how we get an under-cabinet lighting glow, and granted it is daylight outside, but the sink area is always a little dim. To pull off the Magic Light Trick, we purchased this pendant light that we had previously used in our mini-bar area and I really loved how it looked. So I purchased another one in the oil-rubbed bronze finish to match the finish of the kitchen light fixture.
Here is the pendant light we used over the sink. First, we decided on the fixture height and length. It was extremely easy to hang the pendant up using the plate included by just securing with two screws. Then we anchored the LED puck light into the fixture by using strong Velcro tape. Then the light can be taken out when the batteries need to be replaced! (Here are the LED lights we purchased, it comes with 6 lights and a remote!)
You may also notice I also changed the curtains in the window. I made these window valances from a set of curtains I purchased to match in the adjoining breakfast nook. The old curtains made the window look so small and were just too much for the window sill. Sometimes simple is just better.
As you can see from the above picture, the light above the sink really just adds the perfect amount of light to no longer feel like the sink is dim, and really adds cute charm to the sink area as a whole. I also love that the puck lights are dimmable and adjustable with the amount of light they give off!
We also used the Magic Light Trick in our master bedroom to accent a new dresser I found online, and I love how custom the finished product is!
We used these sconces for the Magic Lights, and this is the mirror we purchased to accompany the new dresser. The dresser is a restored antique piece and I love the carving and as I mentioned earlier, I love how the amount of light is completely adjustable. Hopefully this post will have you inspired to possibly add Magic Lighting to the areas of your home that you think needs the extra oomph, and if you have any questions or want any advice on where to incorporate additional lighting into your home, feel free to comment or shoot me an email!
xoxo, Chelsea

Both projects look wonderful. I have a couple areas that need more lighting. I’ve never heard of luck lighting. Thanks for the tip!
