Our Master Bathroom Remodel
It’s FINALLY done! It’s F I N A L L Y done!!!
After a month of being in the throws of remodeling our master bathroom, we are finally done with the project! We had to have foundation work done on our house last month, which also included fixing a slab crack that had developed in our bathroom running into our master bedroom. Because of this, we had to tear up the tile floor that was in the bathroom and would need to re-tile the floor. Since my inner Joanna Gaines beckons and calls at any available moment, I told my husband that we could definitely do it ourselves! (Many times he questioned this idea, but still….he did it.) I wanted to save money, put our DIY skills to work, and avoid having to do a complete bathroom remodel that included the shower . Luckily, I married a Chip myself, and we spent multiple weekends demo-ing the tile floor, which just happened to be TWO layers of tile (facepalm on lazy work by previous owners), lay subflooring, update the paint, tile the bathroom floor, and paint/update the baseboards and trim. OH, and re-install our toilet! No problem, right?
We hit small snags on just about every hurdle of the race, but we still finished the project, are still happily married, and I am in LOVE with how it turned out. Just by paint color alone our bathroom is so much brighter, and the flooring looks much more stylish than the standard beige tile we had earlier. I also updated several fixtures, added some beautiful textiles, and I now have the calming, beautiful, serene bathroom I visualized from the start! Here’s a few before photos to show you what we were working with: boring, broken, and beige.
We used a local foundation company here in Oklahoma to fix our slab cracks. They did an outstanding job, and after they were done, we were ready to address the flooring situation in the bathroom. It took multiple samples of tile to find the perfect color to go with our existing shower tile, but we eventually found the perfect one from Lowe’s. I also took the opportunity to ditch the boring beige in our bathroom and update the paint color. It’s called “Revere Pewter” from Benjamin Moore and it is a tricky color! Luckily, it came out to a light gray-blue which is exactly what I wanted. We used DITRA sub-flooring also from Lowe’s before we installed the tile. The tile we chose was called “Shenandoah Mahogany” from True Porcelain Co. (Lowe’s), and it’s a beautiful, wood-looking tile! We were also lucky to have some guidance during the tile install weekend from my dad! So very glad to have the help! (Thanks, Dad!)
So now for the final, finished product! Insert drum roll here…. I will link whatever I can that’s immediately shoppable online, and share where I found certain other things that are also included! I updated quite a lot, and it’s such a joy to see your big ideas come together in real life!
Voila! A beautiful, bright, and stylish new bathroom! Between the updated wall color, the new floors, a beautiful rug, fresh artwork, updated storage cabinet, and fresh trim paint…we touched just about everything except the shower! Which is only half-true. We also treated ourselves to a new shower head. But moving on! How gorgeous is it!?
The rug runner came from Ruggable and I have only but the best things to say about them! If you don’t know anything about Ruggable rugs, they’re completely washable since it’s a two component system. There’s the first mat which has an upper velcro-like side to adhere to the gorgeous, chenille top. The top portion is machine washable, making their rugs great for high traffic areas, those prone to spills and stains, and just anywhere else in between. The detail of the rug was exceptional, it’s incredibly soft, and it tied in perfectly with my paint color!
I updated our old curtain to one that allows for a bit more light to come in, as the old one was heavy and dark. I also decided to ditch my makeup desk from the old bathroom since I never used it. It was hard to get proper lighting, and instead I swapped it for this storage cabinet from Target. I added the wicker baskets for all kinds of additional storage for all of those #productjunkie products, and also swapped out the original knobs for some upgraded ones! The new knobs from Hobby Lobby add a bit of flair to the cabinet with the beautiful mercury glass. The colored glassware also ties in with the serene blue/gray/beige theme I wanted, as does the new artwork. Those were both found at my local Hobby Lobby!

Now that the entire project is over, I feel so relieved. Honestly, I kind of can’t stop admiring our handiwork! My husband wishes to “never” tile ever again (because of the perfection pressure); but overall as tile-install novices, the project wasn’t too bad considering we had a lot of hoops to jump through. He did a pretty bang-up job for his first tile project! If you’re considering laying your own tile, make sure to do your research! The products you use can make a huge difference between a crappy job, and a perfect finish.
Now that this whole saga is over, we are getting back to having our entire house back in working order! Our new puppy, Dash, is still just as rambunctious, the holidays are fast approaching, and I’m still working hard on trying to grow my blogging audience! Thanks as always for reading, and have a great rest of your week!
